The Rent Is Too Damn High!
The Rent Is Too Damn High! is an art-based festival event featuring an exhibition and catalogue publication that celebrates the New Orleans tricentennial and creates a platform for Black New Orleanians to use art, history and culture to make meaning of the city’s tricentennial legacy, and, ultimately, to shape it.
Presented by the Color BLOC, our organization, is actively creating a cultural economy that supports and nurtures New Orleans-based social and cultural innovators. We are a collective for creatives of color, representing a diverse network of artists, arts professionals and culture bearers working in various disciplines. With a membership of over 350 creatives, the Color BLOC is actively seeking to organize the market, create opportunities and leverage the cultural economy to create equity within African-descended communities. The disconnect between culture and business causes displacement: others can capitalize on the production of Black art and culture while many Black artists and culture-bearers cannot, and so The Rent is too Damn High!
